All members of Chambers can accept instructions from solicitors and in-house lawyers practising in England and Wales as well as from legal firms from outside the UK. Depending on the merits of certain cases, we can accept instructions from licensed professionals under the Licensed Access Scheme. Our clerks are fully aware of factors that are unique to each case and will strive to keep an open and flexible approach to agreeing fees from the outset. Based on their many years’ experience, they are able to provide fee quotes prior to any work being undertaken, as well as giving options for barristers of differing seniority.
The level of fees and the method of agreeing them is dependant upon the type of work that you are instructing us to deal with. For written advice and conferences, the usual practise is to agree fee based on the individual barristers disclosable hourly rate. For all types of hearings, a fixed fee will be agreed with client or instructing solicitor in advance. For hearings that are over 1 day, a fee will be based on a brief fee which includes preparation for the trial and the first day and refresher fees for each subsequent day in court. Refreshers will only be payable if the hearing continues into that day. The Clerks will also inform you in advance if the fee is to include Vat.
Although the clerks will strive to give clients continuity with counsel throughout the case, there will be times when another matter has gone part heard or other issues out of their hands, may occur. They will ensure that suitable cover is found to make the transition to alternative counsel as smooth as possible.
There will be some circumstances which affect the timescales for barristers providing a piece of written advice and these include the amount of documents required to review, availability, complexity of case and the requirement of further documents. We will always aim to work within the time frame but will notify the client if there is likely to be a delay and provide reasons as to why this is.

Members of Chambers are regulated by the Bar Standards Board and all carry Professional Liability Insurance provided by the Bar Mutual with a minimum cover of £500,000. Although most members of Chambers have cover in excess of this figure.
